Phlebotomy Classes
 
Phlebotomy Certification Classes  are 8 Weeks in length.
 
Phlebotomy means to withdraw blood from a vein.
 
 A Phlebotomist can work in a hospital lab, private lab, clinical lab,or a Doctor's office.
 
The class meets weekly on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00am - 4:00pm.
High School Diploma or GED is required and must be presented on the first day of class.
 
Course Description:
The course introduces the student to theory and practical skills necessary for preparation, collection, and processing biological specimens for laboratory testing.  HIPAA and new CDC guidelines will be introduced, as well as universal precautions, infection control and OSHA standards.
 
Teaching Strategies:
Lecture, Video Recording, Skills Labs, Interactive Discussions, Demonstrations, Reviews, and Computer Assignments will be used for teaching strategies.
 
Class Objective 
 
Define: OSHA. Infection control. Nosocomial  Infection
List measures to prevent  the occurrence and spread of infection
Describe the structures and functions of the circulatory system
List equipment that should be available for a phlebotomist
Describe steps used to reduce anxiety in the patient needing venipuncture
Discuss legal issues that are important to the phlebotomist
 
 
The cost of the course is $2,100.00.
 
The Certification exam will be given two weeks after completion of the class.
