EKG Technician
 
Become an Electrocardiogram Technician in eight weeks.
 
Pre-requisite: High School Diploma
 
An electrocardiogram  (EKG) is a recording of the electrical activity of the heart.  The heart is a muscle beating to an electrical stimulation from the  SA node.  In this class you will learn all about the electrical stimulations, anatomy and physiology of the heart, and how to obtain and interpret an EKG.
 
Classes meet Wednesday and Friday 4:30 PM - 8:30 PM
 
Course Description:
 
This course introduces the student to theory and practical skills necessary for preparation,  and obtaining an electrocardiogram.  It is designed for healthcare workers who wish to master the skill of basic EKG recognition and interpretation of normal and abnormal EKG, and understand their significance.
 
Teaching Strategies:
 
Lecture, clinical labs, demonstrations, reviews, computer assignments, video recordings, and EKG rhythm strip interpretations will be used to facilitate learning.
 
Textbook, pocket guide, and tools for  EKG interpretation will be provided.
 
After completion of the course, the certification exam will be administered at the school.
 
Program Cost
 
The cost of the class is $1,700.00.

Describe the structures and functions of the heart
Explain the electrical conduction system of the heart
Calculate heart rates
Define dysrhythmias
